Lost & Found Electricity for AKC school

As you know 70 percent of AKC evening English classes need electricity to supply the light tube in each class. From the start of the school, batteries were used and later on with the support from one of our partners, Link For Aid in Italy, a few panels of Solar were donated and installed to supplied the entire school, followed by the installation of the fans donation from Salet’s friends.

It is not strange that things not living eternally so as our AKC Solar Panels, especially when it is done by non-expert compiling installation, it was not our mistake but the different in budget is huge. From times to time we had to fix it and replace a several spare parts, and unit this late months, this year 2016, we learned that they are already out of date, even it is 40 degree Celsius of the sun heat, the energy could only supply for 30 minutes and that what was the half of the first class hours. Then some of our classes forced to pause a little bit.

As long as we have the commitment, there will be a solution to get out of those challenges, thanks to our core partner Helpucation e.V.  for making the temporary solution for our classroom light, furthermore a big fan has been also equipped to each room to lower the heat a bit. Thanks to all our local team especially Hak for helping to install and committed to invest the maximum from these stuff.

Hope you enjoy it and be part of our group.

My Backdoor Got Knocked by Aston Ryan & Malcolm

Leang, ARM Rep. in the middle

A while ago, I received an e-mail from Mr. Richard Vaughan which seemed to be unknown source addressing me, stating that one of their committee had visited AKC recently in 2014, asking for some information of Angkor Kids Center, if we are in need of anything as they were going to do some fundraising through their generous and passionate customers in Australia. I did make the replies listing a few needs as requested, but it was doubtful for me to whom I wrote to and when our meeting was. The communication went back and forth for a while and we got to be quiet.

As of early June 2015, I got the mail correspondence being forwarded by a different person stated that she would like to visit AKC as the delegate of Aston Ryan & Malcolm. The 18th June 2015 was our appointment date and we meet like planned. With a friendly Khmer look in skin and name born Australian lady Ms. Leang SAO and her friend, I took them to visit AKC, along the way we had some chat and saw some pictures of the last visitor, then I realized that we used to welcome Mr. Michael Ryan to have a quick look at AKC before his flight home. Read more about his story of the visit and the inspiration he got by then on their blog http://astonryan.com.au/angkor-kids-centre/.

After welcoming our guests through our backdoor;) Leang has been presented of the school and its founding stories as usual. Just before our return back to Siem Reap, Leang cited the work that her company, ARM does to support the social projects like AKC, and to leave good memories here in Cambodia, ARM left one thousand three hundred Australian dollars which is around one thousand US. dollars to support AKC. This great sum of cash donation is being used to sustain and maintain the new Branch of the Green Project (Piggery Project) with the main part funded by Ivanhoe Grammar School in Australia.

Pamela was very impressed by the image of the village and just had one contingent comment after the event and the village visit “Each year I see how things are changing in your village.  You, and all your team who are inspired by you, are really giving these children and the people of Samroang the opportunity for a better future. I know how poor the villages are in Siem Reap province, and I realized it again when we walked back in the dark and I saw families eating together and you told me the man who will look after the chickens will have a better home than he does now.”

Pamela is not only our honorable speaker, but her presence bringing along village 15 bikes, 14 school uniforms, and 14 satchels to be donated to the outstanding of AKC school students and the less privileged students in Samroang community to be able to go to school in this new academic year 2014-2015.

At the end, she promised to the community and to the founder of Angkor Kids Center, Mr. Samnang Chhon, there are more things to come.

Stay with us and see what Linkforaid and Angkor Kids Center bring to live in the forthcoming year of 2015.

And support us to make the great change for general humanity.

After the two consecutive years, 2012 & 2013 of successes hosting the CHOICE (Cambridge-Hong Kong Operation for International Children’s Education) Volunteer Service Trip; AKC is still touching the spirit of love to the CHOICE committee members and volunteers which made this year, 2014 to welcome their contribution again even thought the Project had been selected to a neighboring country of Lao PDR in the area located miles away from AKC School.

Special thanks to Mr Bryan Cheung and his mother for spending extra miles  to bring the sufficient school stationeries supplies to all the 230 students of AKC, which is enough for them to use for a full year of the upcoming academic year of 2014-2015. Thanks to all the donors for your contribution to make this happen.

AKC would like to wish you all the very best and hope we will have chances to welcome you again back to AKC in a near future !

Pon’s Overseas University Life Updates

Pon, the first from the right, with his family in front of his house.
You might have heard about the human capital development strategies that AKC has been taken, and you must have heard Pon, our motivated, and self-reliant person who has grown his life through volunteering. After a few successful jobs helping his own community and the surroundings though the voluntary work with Angkor Kids Center, Pon has been granted an opportunity to study at Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University in Thailand in the Faculty of Agriculture Technology, which is not available in Cambodia.
Pon in the Garden Lab
Updating the status of Pon, we just had a Skype talk with him, he really likes the university and the rich learning materials there, however he is now facing some financial condition for living and studying there with the following issues :
1 – Due to the political changes/reform in Thailand made over  200,000 Cambodian workers without proper permit forcing to return to Cambodia, this causing the students with student visa stopped or banned from working at night or outside the school, as what he had planned to survive his life.
2 – Pon was trying to ask the university to have some job to do at the university as well that we would got 6000 Thai Baht around 188$ per term, and that will be entitled to pay at the end of the term (4 months), but he was rejected with a condition that he is a freshman (first year student), he will be allowed to apply in term 2 onward, it means he could try again in January 2015.
3 – With the first fund donated by Linkforaid, the Italian charitable association (USD 600.00 in September 2013, and USD 1,100.00 in March 2014), that AKC managed to send him phase by phase, permitted him to live just during the whole month of September 2014 – here is the general expenses from late January 2014 up to September 2014.
Pon's Expenses Report
4 – Pon normally eats a lot like a few plates of rice but now he reduces to just to have something in stomach, but he still have to spend at least 3$ per day, and he also need to pay some classroom paper work at around 30$ minimum per month as well, these are the ongoing cost.
Donors, supporters, friends, with the details of this message, I would like to call all of you to make any possibilities to help Pon carrying on his safe and confident student life there, I am very sour that Pon will make a great model influencing others, and contribute back to the humanity with professional and fair practices in term of education development and environment protection.
Please let me know if you need any other information to support the campaign raising the fund for him.
You may make a quick donation to our Pay Pal account or to our foundation partner account !
Thanks and see you soon.

IGS Service March 2014

IGS Welcome

27 March 2014 has been another great event happening at AKC when the 13 fourteen-year-old students from Ivanhoe Grammar School, Australia, lead by Mr. Page-Wood and Ms MacEwan.

Among those much and many elements incidentally and accidentally planned activities throughout Cambodia, one indicator of the AKC Green Project, planting commemorative nursery trees has be set available at the AKC school, as what Mr Page-Wood said “when a new life start ” !
IGS March 14
Pre-event day : Thanks to the Project Trip fund permit our AKC team travel in a Tuk Tuk to Siem Reap and started to purchase 2 sets of a rich plating tools that we will use again and again including 2 hoes, 2 hummars, 2 axes, 2 giant knives, 2 spades, 2 mini handle spades, 2 pairs of watering baskets, nails. Another team went off and look for the cooking ingredients that could not be found in the garden…, other team looked for stuff which are available in the village like bamboo trunks for the plant cate and gathered them at the school to be ready for the next day…

On site service day : A 15 seat van has been used and squeezed in, for transfer to the site which located 27 km next to the temple complex, AKC school in Samroang.

Arrival at AKC the Ivanhoe group has been greeted with a parallel two lines of AKC students and teachers and walk them to AKC school.
A short introduction of AKC has been delivered to the group including the brief of the activities of the day. Then the group paired up with 5 or more of AKC students to 1 Ivanhoe teammates in order to start the work.
To start with, they had to walk about 10 minutes to Pon’s house to get their young plants, and walk back to the school.
No break:) some demonstration of the use of tool are shown. What was the amazing and incredible thing is when those youngsters could use those hard farming tools like they born with it;)
By 11.30 am the team could get the plating finished which is not normal without their great teamwork !
After hard work and unique experience, a typical local lunch were ready in the one of the classroom. Music by AKC team appeared to comfort the their lunch ! Can’t finish lunch properly, a bound-back nice voice of English music were out, soon it was formed in one composition of Khmer and English music….
The heat getting stronger and stronger 40 degrees+++ but it couldn’t exhaust their enjoyment when there were more and more flow of different moments came along the minutes!

14:30 was the tough time when we have to make a group photo and bid the goodbye

See you again very soon Don and all the team ! See you again Ivanhoe !

Hope our relationship is sustainable !

Have fun with your long haul flight back home !
