Let the AKC be light by Roofing with Solar Panels!

Those who are my real followers and friends, might know that apart from the business of travel, tours & event company Asia Natural Tour, I am doing here in my own country of Cambodia. I spend at least 30% of my time giving back to where I come from and how my life get changed, and that is simplified as Angkor Kids Center https://www.angkorkidscenter.org/.

AKC need solar energy

With challenge of the lack of electricity disturbing the daily free rare foreign language classes, in this coming May 2017 our school will be lightened up by a proper and full set of Solar Panel in a new roof to be benefited to not just the school but also the neighboring village families.

In partnering with a German based charity association Helpucation e.V. http://helpucation.org/ to raise the funds for that, we have created a fundraising campaign on betterplace.org where you can find here at this link:

Please crew up your courage and like, share, communicate and spread the word for us, so that the dream for more than rural 250 kids in a village near Angkor temples can come true.

The old school condition improvement

Following the recent electricity survival and the main school condition improvement made possible by our core partner Helpucation e.V. based in Germany as stated in the previous blog HERE. Today we are happy to inform you that our original school / classroom has also been improved with the generous donation of One Step One Life, an Australian charity association founded by a young man, Mr Jake Stalkerr. Many  thanks to Mr. Hak Hien, one of our local volunteers for working on this and make it possible.

A donation of US$ 200 used to cover a pair of fans, a fold of electric wire used to connect from generator at the main school, better light tubes, switch and other installation stuff.

Thanks to One Step One Life for being one of our great and active partners!

Absence of the International & Cambodian Children’s Day Celebration 2016

International & Cambodian Children Day Celebration @ AKC

Sorry we are too busy working to develop our children at our school as well as our communities, that is why there is no festive celebration for our kids this year, said the AKC project director, Samnang Chhon explaining the absence of International & Cambodian Children’s Day Celebration 2016.

International & Cambodian Children Day Celebration @ Angkor Kids Center 1st June 2012

If you hit the above link you will see our care to promote the basic rights of the children and care about their welfare back in 2012. By that time, the International & Cambodian Children Day celebration which was to be held on the first of June, was not so in common, that was the reason we started to build the awareness to the public, especially at the remote community level of how important the children and their basic rights are, YOU CAN READ FULL EVENT REPORT HERE.

In the recent years, we have noticed that the celebrations have been  increasing significantly, as of 2016 almost every local TV channel, school, organization, and institution celebrated this child events.

As mentioned by our director above, we see that there is no need to make the celebration, national levels have made it publicly with many modern means. Additionally, our team are busy with other important and top priority work to serve our children and this meant much more for them to our perspective.

The question of what we are busy with, we have the answer as following :

1/- We are working to improve the school and classroom condition, fans and  electricity installation, bathroom maintenance, fence developing….

2/- We are trying to send at least six more candidates from our school and communities to do the vocational training course in tourism, one to Paul Dubrule, and five other to Haven Cambodia which is our best way to reintegrate our students and volunteer team.

3/- We are trying to send at least seven candidates to do an Interactive Teacher Training Course on the Teaching English as a second language TESL at Australia Centre for Education (ACE) Siem Reap,s, to improve and build the standard and quality of teaching English at our school, as well as developing the English ability to our team from the class.

4/- A few other work and case study with our donors and partners, to be specified when there are progressing more than 50% to our expectation at least.

These all the core activities that our local team are approaching to get done within this month, and that is why we left the celebration of International and Cambodian Children’s Day on 1st June 2016 quiet, even we know that kids love it.

Hope you find our work important same as the spirit our local team, and please bear with us that without you, your support, motivation and encouragement, it is really hard for us to invest our little time into a productive work, we need YOU.

Appreciate our work, please spread the word as one of the greatest mean to help Angkor Kids Center.

Lost & Found Electricity for AKC school

As you know 70 percent of AKC evening English classes need electricity to supply the light tube in each class. From the start of the school, batteries were used and later on with the support from one of our partners, Link For Aid in Italy, a few panels of Solar were donated and installed to supplied the entire school, followed by the installation of the fans donation from Salet’s friends.

It is not strange that things not living eternally so as our AKC Solar Panels, especially when it is done by non-expert compiling installation, it was not our mistake but the different in budget is huge. From times to time we had to fix it and replace a several spare parts, and unit this late months, this year 2016, we learned that they are already out of date, even it is 40 degree Celsius of the sun heat, the energy could only supply for 30 minutes and that what was the half of the first class hours. Then some of our classes forced to pause a little bit.

As long as we have the commitment, there will be a solution to get out of those challenges, thanks to our core partner Helpucation e.V.  for making the temporary solution for our classroom light, furthermore a big fan has been also equipped to each room to lower the heat a bit. Thanks to all our local team especially Hak for helping to install and committed to invest the maximum from these stuff.

Hope you enjoy it and be part of our group.

Valentina has good impression with the school, village. With her career professionalism in the Foreign Language Teaching, she has brought some gift for the kids and make them learned the colors. Yes, true, just a very short time but at least they learned and practised something. Anyway, Ms Valentina Iorio is our long term supporter, and only here with this trip to here where her money going to. She is proud of her contribution!

The AKC original classroom condition improved

Those who have been to Angkor Kids Center will have a better picture of the term of “Original Classroom / School”. This term refers to our very beginning school when we had our class taught under a small and single shelter built in the family ground of Ms. Salin NHY, our current school director. Even now we have a proper school building, but this original school are well maintaining with some reasons, keep it as our memorial start up site, and the need of more space for delivering our flooding daily English class.

Former AKC Original School

With the strong relationship that our founder, Mr. Samnang Chhon has with the Hong Kong people through the main school building project back in and from 2011 (CHOICE), now on a different channel of corporation which is the business of travel and tourism Asia Natural Tour (ANT) of our founder Samnang partnering with the Chinese business Adventurous Education of some of the former Hong Kong service team, the presence of two Chinese student groups came over in late January and early February 2016.

To the modal of responsible business, our AKC original school building has been improved with a proper and nice tiled floor and ten writing desks have been constructed and set in the classroom for better learning at the TOTAL COST OF US$520, $500 donated by Adventurous and the balance from the AKC cashbook.

Instead of sitting on the dusty floor and taking notes directly on the floor, now they have a clean floor to sit, and desks to write on, which is really, really much better and comfortable for the students.

Special thanks to all the stakeholders to make this improvement of the school condition happen.

Kea Mosley visit Angkor Kids Center for her “Give Back Mission”

It was so privileged to be given this opportunity by Mr. Chhung Sopheap and his wife Mrs. Aing Solin introducing our community project to a great lady Ms. Kea Mosley, a Cambodian-American lady.

Kea started her life in a difficult situation in rural Cambodia, at one point she had her life grew in an orphanage center and was given the greatest chance to move and live in the United State of America.

Speaking not very clear Khmer, the Cambodian language, Kea told us during her time at Angkor Kids Center that she loves her country, she loves her people, to the better life that she has now, she wants to share and give back to those who are in real need in a sustainable way.

Kea spent her time at many places in searching for the real one in her mind, all are too big and so so much work to do to help, she almost gave up or take a big plan, but thanks to Sopheap and  Solin for introducing a tiny project of Angkor Kids Center, where she got the most inspired, she realize that there is a way to start from a small angle but impacting in a greater size.

Kea has spread the words and she could enjoy some peaceful time enjoying her beautiful country  in the rest of her time here!

She is back to her developed home now and already tackling to find ways to support Angkor Kids Center.

We are proud of you Kea, and good luck with your “Give Back Mission”!

Better Media Campaign by Helpucation e.V. team

“We really see how great the projects, the school and the community of Somroang are, but it sometimes hard to speak them all”, Andreas Dorner who has spent several weeks at Angkor Kids Center recently said. In order to transfer the information, the impression and the experience better to the world, he and his wife as Helpucation e.V. missioners and the AKC team spent all and several days building the raw materials for the promotion publishing purposes.

Here is a few snapshots we have done together in the heat, and of course a lot other working happening, enjoy and have fun!
