AKC Welcomes Executive Director to Take Over AKC

Education is the Key for Change, Hak quoted. Hak has been employed by All For Kids Organization as the first full time Executive Director to take over the school and project management. This incredible HR development has been made available only with the greatest support from the donors to Helpucation e.V in Germany. Let’s have this wonderful life journey with Hak as following:AKO Executive Director

My name’s HIEN Hak and I am 25 years old.

I am the eldest son in the family with three younger sisters and my mother. And I am married, my wife is Makra and I have a son Jesda Alex who is 7 months old. My family is a middle-class family in this rural areas.

Before rejoining the Angkor Kids Center / All For Kids Organization as Executive Director, I used to work for a 5 star hotel, Amansara Resort in Siem Reap, Cambodia for 3 years.

I attended the first English class in 2008 with Mr. CHHON Samnang, our AKC Founder. There were 25 students in the class. After one year of studies, I joined the Angkor Kids Center as a volunteer assistant teacher from 2009 to 2011 teaching around 15 students in my class. From 2011 to 2013 I volunteered as a full-time teacher with 25 students.

After I graduated from high school in 2013, I had the chance to get a scholarship from Mrs. Pamela McCourt Francescone coordinated by the Angkor Kids Center to join a vocational training school called Paul Dubrule Hospitality school. It is the best Tourism and Hospitality training school in Siem Reap. After one year of training there, I got a job as Restaurant Captain in a middle class restaurant in Siem Reap. After three months of working there, I was interviewed to work at one of the top ten hotels in Siem Reap named AMANSARA.

The love and the desire to help the Angkor Kids Center to become a place that is providing a better quality of education to children and youth in this area, led me back to where I started. It also let me share what I’ve learned with the students at the Angkor Kids Center.

My first goal for the Angkor Kids Center is to have a clear educational system and program that can provide free quality education to children. Furthermore, our teachers and volunteers can increase and develop their abilities more effectively.

The next steps I want to take in the Angkor Kids Center:

  1. A comprehensive classroom and a library that enables students and teachers to further increase their knowledge.
  2. Having an International English As Foreign Language School Curriculum and School Management Standard to follow with a vision to see AKC school as the international standard Free foreign language school in the most remote area.
  3. Create a professional tourism training center on hotel, restaurant and hospitality skills.
  4. Multi-crop plantations that act as a supplier for the tourism training center.
  5. Be self-sustained or partial contributed from the project (3 and 4) above.

Thank you for all your support so far. Let’s stay in touch and see the growth of AKC school together. Your suggestion and feedback are highly valued and consider.

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. Edward Everett Hale.

Mascha & Joaquin Conclude their Time at the Angkor Kids Center

Mascha and Joaquin have been able to move a lot during their time at the Angkor Kids Center just like Laura, Chhay and the other volunteer helpers, and have a crush on their hearts. We are sure that she has had a lasting influence on this experience and that she will always remember the exciting time in Cambodia and we thank her very much for her energetic support. Please read yourself for what they are saying about their volunteer work in the Angkor Kids Center:

The school was founded by Samnang in 2009 and many years ago he met a German couple that enabled him to learn English. Then he wanted to offer the children from his village the same opportunity and it was the Angkor Kids Center (later on registered to the Royal Government of Cambodia under the legal name All For Kids NGO).

Playground at AKC school

Today, the school consists of three classrooms and a room that serves as a library, computer room and office. It has its own toilets, a schoolyard with climbing frames and an adjacent playground for the children. There is electricity and even Wi-Fi, which makes working for teachers much easier. The children come to the Angkor Kids Center after their normal school and the teachers are also volunteers and go to school themselves.

Chhay, who is just 22 years old, is in our opinion the heart and soul of the center. He is the only employee of the school, giving computer classes twice a day and teaching two English classes. He is also the one who opens and closes the school, taking care of the trash and everything else. We have grown very fond of him over time and without him we probably could not have realized any of our ideas. Mostly we have prepared the lessons together with Chhay. But other things, such as a timetable, an overview of all newly found educational games and multiple worksheets were created. We cleaned the library, repaired climbing frames and made new trash cans.

AKC working class

The lessons, which we were allowed to follow, we liked and the kids were extremely motivated in the matter. We could only teach together with Chhay, but that was not a disadvantage for the children and for us. In general, the cohesion and the climate blew us away there. They were friendly with each other and also we were interested mustered, smiled and greeted. All we can say is that the Angkor Kids Center is much more than just a school. It is the meeting place of the children, whether for learning or for playing. There are books, toys, football goals, climbing frames and the doors are open (thanks to Chhay) all day for everyone.

Although it’s hard to accept that children do not have the same opportunities and opportunities around the world, the Angkor Kids Center is a great start in the right direction. We wish all those involved the best for the future and we hope to have contributed something good to the project.

What’s Next ? Stay with us 🙂

Let the AKC be light by Roofing with Solar Panels!

Those who are my real followers and friends, might know that apart from the business of travel, tours & event company Asia Natural Tour, I am doing here in my own country of Cambodia. I spend at least 30% of my time giving back to where I come from and how my life get changed, and that is simplified as Angkor Kids Center https://www.angkorkidscenter.org/.

AKC need solar energy

With challenge of the lack of electricity disturbing the daily free rare foreign language classes, in this coming May 2017 our school will be lightened up by a proper and full set of Solar Panel in a new roof to be benefited to not just the school but also the neighboring village families.

In partnering with a German based charity association Helpucation e.V. http://helpucation.org/ to raise the funds for that, we have created a fundraising campaign on betterplace.org where you can find here at this link:

Please crew up your courage and like, share, communicate and spread the word for us, so that the dream for more than rural 250 kids in a village near Angkor temples can come true.

Thanks!

Following the recent electricity survival and the main school condition improvement made possible by our core partner Helpucation e.V. based in Germany as stated in the previous blog HERE. Today we are happy to inform you that our original school / classroom has also been improved with the generous donation of One Step One Life, an Australian charity association founded by a young man, Mr Jake Stalkerr. Absence of the International & Cambodian Children’s Day Celebration 2016

International & Cambodian Children Day Celebration @ AKC

Sorry we are too busy working to develop our children at our school as well as our communities, that is why there is no festive celebration for our kids this year, said the AKC project director, Samnang Chhon explaining the absence of International & Cambodian Children’s Day Celebration 2016.

International & Cambodian Children Day Celebration @ Angkor Kids Center 1st June 2012

If you hit the above link you will see our care to promote the basic rights of the children and care about their welfare back in 2012. By that time, the International & Cambodian Children Day celebration which was to be held on the first of June, was not so in common, that was the reason we started to build the awareness to the public, especially at the remote community level of how important the children and their basic rights are, YOU CAN READ FULL EVENT REPORT HERE.

In the recent years, we have noticed that the celebrations have been  increasing significantly, as of 2016 almost every local TV channel, school, organization, and institution celebrated this child events.

As mentioned by our director above, we see that there is no need to make the celebration, national levels have made it publicly with many modern means. Additionally, our team are busy with other important and top priority work to serve our children and this meant much more for them to our perspective.

The question of what we are busy with, we have the answer as following :

1/- We are working to improve the school and classroom condition, fans and  electricity installation, bathroom maintenance, fence developing….

2/- We are trying to send at least six more candidates from our school and communities to do the vocational training course in tourism, one to Paul Dubrule, and five other to Haven Cambodia which is our best way to reintegrate our students and volunteer team.

3/- We are trying to send at least seven candidates to do an Interactive Teacher Training Course on the Teaching English as a second language TESL at Australia Centre for Education (ACE) Siem Reap,s, to improve and build the standard and quality of teaching English at our school, as well as developing the English ability to our team from the class.

4/- A few other work and case study with our donors and partners, to be specified when there are progressing more than 50% to our expectation at least.

These all the core activities that our local team are approaching to get done within this month, and that is why we left the celebration of International and Cambodian Children’s Day on 1st June 2016 quiet, even we know that kids love it.

Hope you find our work important same as the spirit our local team, and please bear with us that without you, your support, motivation and encouragement, it is really hard for us to invest our little time into a productive work, we need YOU.

Appreciate our work, please spread the word as one of the greatest mean to help Angkor Kids Center.

Lost & Found Electricity for AKC school

As you know 70 percent of AKC evening English classes need electricity to supply the light tube in each class. From the start of the school, batteries were used and later on with the support from one of our partners, Link For Aid in Italy, a few panels of Solar were donated and installed to supplied the entire school, followed by the installation of the fans donation from Salet’s friends.

It is not strange that things not living eternally so as our AKC Solar Panels, especially when it is done by non-expert compiling installation, it was not our mistake but the different in budget is huge. From times to time we had to fix it and replace a several spare parts, and unit this late months, this year 2016, we learned that they are already out of date, even it is 40 degree Celsius of the sun heat, the energy could only supply for 30 minutes and that what was the half of the first class hours. Then some of our classes forced to pause a little bit.

As long as we have the commitment, there will be a solution to get out of those challenges, thanks to our core partner Helpucation e.V.  for making the temporary solution for our classroom light, furthermore a big fan has been also equipped to each room to lower the heat a bit. Thanks to all our local team especially Hak for helping to install and committed to invest the maximum from these stuff.

Hope you enjoy it and be part of our group.
