Meaningful and Successful 2019

Before all, please allow our AKC / AKO family wish you all the warmest and greatest Season’s Greetings!

It comes to a conclusion ūüėČ Let’s use our countdown moment to review our meaningful and successful 2019. This year 2019 has been a year of our historical progress for Angkor Kids Center. AKC family is so proud to recap what we have done as following:

SOFT DEVELOPMENT

Just a reminder that AKC has official current five board members (Mr. Samnang CHHON, Mr. Hak HIEN, Mrs. Salin NHY, Mr. Meam BY, and Mr. Cheay KROM).

AKC Board of Directors

Front Right: Samnang | Middle Right: Cheay | Back End Right: Meam Front Left: Salin | Behind Left: Hak

And three full-time employees are actively serving AKC, Mr. Hak HIEN, Mr. Vith SUON and Mr. Chhay LEAP. These 3 committed team members are playing the most crucial roles for AKC development. Special thanks to Helpucation e.V. Germany for exclusively funding this HR project.

Chhay was our first ever paid staff. He started his job by reporting all the school need and maintain the school.  While Vith who is the latest employed teamwork. He is working on developing the classroom curriculum. Back in January 2019, instead of trying everything out, AKC fixed to use only one material (Family & Friend Books). Particularly,  Hak is directing the school to meet the mission and vision of the organization. He assists doing the work of the Founding Director. Putting all the short term and long term need into proper project papers. Ensuring the project implementation is going at the most productive, and most efficient. What is more, Hak keep all donors and stakeholders updated with his reports in local language, Khmer and English.

AKC Employee

Above all, we have also six local volunteers who are actively involved with AKC activities, especially teaching on a regular basic. We are proudly to introduce them from Left to Right: 1- Ms. Houy Chandeng, 2- Ms. Ngek Ran, 3- Mr. Khon Chert, 4- Mr. Pen Mesa 5- 3- Ms. Hos Nisa 6- Ms. Sok Toeun.

AKC Volunteer Team

With all this evolution and development, AKC gains not only the confidence from our own communities but the neighboring’s. In which, we attract more and more students to enroll.

INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT

The most significant achievement we have made is the new two-room building. This premise is coming just in time of our need for the classroom expansion and office for our growing team. This two rooms are well furnished with modern chair-desks, office furniture, and LAB facilities. We thanks to Ivanhoe Grammar School Service Trip 2019 Australia which is the main donors. And Logos Academy School, Hong Kong, co-funding donor. For bringing this grand project to live.

Angkor Kids New School

Back to the Light for AKC School project 2017, that a fully powerful set of solar has been built. This most meaning project brought to AKC by our parenting foundation Helpucation e.V. Carrying on from this concept of Solar energy and the model of sustainability development. This year 2019, Helpucation brought extra panels of Solar on AKC rooftop, along with several batteries and light tubes for the most underprivileged families. This system is specializing in Recharging Batteries. The villagers now can go to our center to charge their batteries instead of going miles away. And pollute the environment by the generator. Check the detailed report of this Home Light Project here.

Back in March 2019, our AKC kids and team got access to Safe Drinking Water. Thanks to Local Measure Australia for spending their time with us. Your Purified Drinking Water System is a meaningful project to AKC school. Kids are dehydrated now.

Purified Water @ AKC

November 2019, AKC school playground switch from the soil ground to Patio. We thanks to MANE company outing from Bangkok for support us all these. What Mane CSR day was much and beyond a visit. In addition to the Patio building, Categorized Trash Bins was also built. What is more, the day was full of learning and fun, for instance: Kids learned to separate wastes. Kids learned about art and did some basic art competition. Kids learned about brain training games and having fun with it. At last, there were are also some sport activities like soccer…

Patio at AKC school

At last but not least, AKC celebrate our successful and meaningful 10 Years Anniversary.

With the most festive event and celebration. Again, thanks to Helpucation foundation for funding all the expenses of the event. Thanks for your wonderful gift of our 10 year progressing work.

10 Years AKC 2019

We have also take this opportunity to inaugurate the new school build and the new LAB (computer class founded by Child Foundation USA)

SPONSORSHIP & HUMANITY WORK

As we know children could only live and grow if they are supported with the four fundamental needs / rights. Including: 1)- Survival rights, 2)- Developmental rights, 3)-Protection rights, 4)- Participation rights. As an organization who are working closely with children, we do not just give lessons in class and at school, but have basic approach to their individual personal life. Thanks to Child Foundation in the United States whose projects are working to seek the most unprivileged children around the world and find sponsors for them. After working with AKC, we found 19 (nineteen) kids who meet their recruitment criteria. With their support, their basic needs are improved.

Furthermore, AKC has also well thought over our local volunteers. In addition to the benefit of personal growth through learning from teaching and other social participation. AKC also seek sponsorship opportunity for them. As a result, this year, Mr. Kroem Kruoch who used to volunteer with AKC for years. He now got sponsored by Link For Aid, a charitable association in Italy. Kroem is going to finish his University preparation course soon and will be moving to his foundation year in the coming 2020.

Link For Aid in Cambodia

Above all, through the donation of our partners and visitors, AKC has also contributed many bicycles and school materials to our most needed children that allow them to continue their study.

HOSPITALITY SCHOOL / AKC REINTEGRATION PROJECT

Any driving vehicles have their own direction. Same for Angkor Kids Center, with our rich and extensive background in Hospitality and the geographical potential. AKC set Hospitality Training Project as the goal for AKC to reach. This 2019, the AKC BOD members had invested our own pocket to initiate by starting a small lodge in the downtown of Siem Reap, called ALL FOR STAY Lodge. The business was up and running under the leadership of Mr. Cheay KROM. Unfortunately, due to the maintenance and renovation needed to be done, we decided to suspend the contract.

All For Stay Lodge

What we gain from this Business Startup is the experience, and responsibility as young entrepreneur. We are confident that  the AKC Hospitality Training Project could be properly executed when we are there.

PUBLIC RECOGNITION & APPRECIATION

Angkor Kids Center is not kids anymore, since we registered with the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia as a Non-Profit Organization. We are now ALL FOR KIDS ORGANIZATION. We have our specialized staff to deliver our work. Since no one is born with silver spoon in their mouth. And born perfect. We are striking to tackle with any issue arisen along the ways.

With the regular movies night, AKC is building our publicity at the cheapest or even no cost. With professional work we are doing, AKC image is reaching out to the neighboring communities bringing back close to 50 students come from those areas.

What even special, Angkor Kids Center received OFFICIAL RECOGNITION OF APPRECIATION from the official government.

Official Appreciation Letter

CONCLUSION & MESSAGE FROM FOUNDING DIRECTOR

To sum up, me, Samnang personally as the Founding Director who oversee the project progresses and challenges. I am confidently commenting that this 2019 is a top success for Angkor Kids Center. Just the budget itself, thoroughly, not less than 30 thousands USD. This amount already the top number. It is true that there are still rooms for improvement. And challenges to overcome, but those are what to do next in the coming 2020. There are always issue in life, only no life, no issues.

One behalf of AKC / AKO families, I would like proceed our utmost gratefulness to all our donors especially the team at Helpucation e.V. without your firm support, it will be so hard for us to move here. Ivanhoe Grammar School for including us into your annual service trip beneficiary group. Asia Natural Tours (ANT), for introducing AKC communities into your reliable CSR programs. Especially the carefully designing or bringing over only the passionate clients / companies to our communities and school. And president Pamela at Link For Aid for always supporting our individual kids and youth. It is a great way to give them back or reintegrate them. Yes, there are so many more generous individuals and corporate¬†are not listed here. As Henry Ford said, there is no success without working together. However I would like to limit up here and make it short. Hope you don’t mind.

Looking forward to 2020, there are so many in our list. And those plans are the reliable ones, but I keep it to the next news post because now is all about 2019. However, please remember that to succeed our Vision of building our kids and youth capacities and reintegrate them right on the site. Our 2020 mission to get ourselves prepared in the next important milestones.

Interested in learning about our 2020 mission, let’s catch up with me.

Hope this recap gives you an overview of what we have done in 2019. If there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to contact us.

Looking forward to successful 2020 all together!

The Return of Matured AKC Alumnus Meam

Would the return of our alumnus as another success story for AKC? Meam opens a case study here:

Just like a quick moment passed but it has been already over ten years now that we have put our work on this social projects. It has been quite a period of time that our initial alumnus have left the school and village for better education and experiences. Over the course, you may have learned different success stories  from our volunteers and the students.

We experienced the hardness of building up the team capability to handle the teaching. The better ones were leaving us for better life, after they gained better knowledge for themselves. However, the challenges we have faced were for good purposes as those  are the objective of our school to build the youth capacity and reintegrate them somewhere through our programs or by their owns.

Cheay Korm at AKC

Cheay @ ALL FOR STAY Lodge Guest Service Director

What is even prouder for all the dedication we have put together, as on the ground of Angkor Kids Center, and as for the International supporters and donors like¬†Helpucation e.V.¬†“Every door I enter, either hotels, resorts, restaurants, airports, airlines, airplanes, tour agency,¬†Destination Management Company, attractions, special venues or even a garden, I always get surprised by respected greetings”¬†Said Samnang, the Founding Director. These unexpected voices and gestures are from the former AKC students and Volunteers who left the school for better skills, education and jobs. Therefore this has witnessed the success and other investment put on recruiting new local volunteers, train them and let them leave for better and a great solution for the moment that we can not keep them with us due to the ongoing¬†REINTEGRATION APPROACH.

Sticking to the natural cause as the base of our practice, “Do Good, Get Good”. In the fair way of treating our people around, we are so privileged to¬†have¬†Meam¬†bringing this most advanced class back targeting to the current AKC volunteers and young adults.

AKC Volunteer Teacher

EFL Teacher

Meam By, academic leader

‚ÄúServing the social services is my favorite hobby, helping children in rural area is my goal‚ÄĚ, Mean quoted. Not different from other children and members of¬†Angkor Kids Center. Meam was born and grown in Somrong village. He took advantage by learning and teaching English and other skills at Angkor Kids Center. In favor of education, he uses his scholarship grant from an AKC partner, One Step One Life, to transform his EFL teaching skill to the professional level by spending¬†a five years++ at the University in Siem Reap. Meam is a multi-instrumented artists, he love to entertain your stay better and share with you the arts of education and music from the Khmer culture corners. Meam came back to AKC at the weekend and share his English skills to the youth and volunteers who are currently serving AKC. Let‚Äôs play with Meam or going with him to his class.

AKC Most Advanced Class

Thanks for your reading with great interest, share our loves to all your lovely people, share our news. There are more news to come stay connected.

Happy Festive Seasons! Love from all AKC team, Kids and Family!

Movies Night of AKC

A movie can be a gateway to exploring complex ideas and open children’s eyes to other ways of looking at the world.

Movies Night of Angkor Kids Center

Movie is not just a part of the entertainment, but it also a product of technological development, and as a tool for providing education. This approach is starting with the our Angkor Kids Center(AKC) , and additionally it is also a way to outreach people and community about the importance of education, the impact of excessive use of plastic and the preservation of the natural environment.

Not Just Kids But Family Care

We all know that our work throughout the course is about kids and young adults development and rehabilitation whom are the Bamboo shoots. But a responsible Care and Give is not just the show but back scenes of their daily life, and family situation. Angkor Kids Center / All for Kids Organization is paying our effort to understand and oversee all these matters and paid to each and individual kids at both our school and kids running around in the village with a purpose to attract them to school and stay in school.

To illustrate in a more visual way, let us give you an example of the work we have done:

As of May 2018, one of the kids’ family living in Samrong village who are living in the worst condition in the community was affected by the natural disaster / storm. The family of Mr. Miev and Mrs. Mork with 6 children living for years in a small and narrow thatched house. Just after saving bit of money, they could afford to build just a house structure and roof where they could settle in. What is worth, this May 2018, their nest was fought by a storm and got the entire structure collapsed. Luckily, there is no one in the family got injured but their little household got destroyed including the bicycle that their kids used for riding to school.

Sustainable Community Project

You might see AKC team now is slow and inactive, we have to confess that “yes we are” but no one is sleeping, we keep our eyes on and our hand dirty from the distance and from the ground. After learning this information, our founder / director Mr. Samnang Chhon has raised the fund through his contact and his company Asia Natural Tour contact. As a result, two bicycles were donated with the donation of Mrs. Pamela Mccourt Francescone, the founder & president of Link For Aid charity association in Italy and¬†some cash donation from Asia Natural Tour for urgent need.

Community Support

Those help are not yet the end, Asia Natural Tour (ANT) has raised this fundamental need which is part of the Humanity Priority Right of housing access to their business partner. What a prouder  news is that a new house will be rebuilt with the fund support from that partner which is a school based in Hong Kong called Logos Academy  The AKC team and ANT team will work together to host this trip and organize the community service activities for this group in the coming July 2018.

Keep you posted on the outcome, stay tune and follow on our social media.

Helpucation e.V. brings Light to AKC School

WE Said It and WE do It!

Just within a year after setting a goal and making the priority list where adequate light for AKC school has been on the Top priority that we have agreed among our local AKC team and the partner donor Helpucation e.V. team, this May 2017 has become another historic movement for Angkor Kids Center School after having its official parenthood from All For Kids Organization, the registered NGO recognized by the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia that a proper and full set Solar System has been installed at the school.

AKC New Solar Panel

The greatest thanks to Helpucation e.V. Germany, with you AKC would have never had this wonderful chance to have this precious gift. What’s Next ? Stay with us ūüôā

Let the AKC be light by Roofing with Solar Panels!

Those who are my real followers and friends, might know that apart from the business of travel, tours & event company Asia Natural Tour, I am doing here in my own country of Cambodia. I spend at least 30% of my time giving back to where I come from and how my life get changed, and that is simplified as Angkor Kids Center https://www.angkorkidscenter.org/.

AKC need solar energy

With challenge of the lack of electricity disturbing the daily free rare foreign language classes, in this coming May 2017 our school will be lightened up by a proper and full set of Solar Panel in a new roof to be benefited to not just the school but also the neighboring village families.

In partnering with a German based charity association Helpucation e.V. http://helpucation.org/ to raise the funds for that, we have created a fundraising campaign on betterplace.org where you can find here at this link:

http://www.betterplace.org/p52391

Please crew up your courage and like, share, communicate and spread the word for us, so that the dream for more than rural 250 kids in a village near Angkor temples can come true.

Thanks!

Sarith’s Success Story with Recognition to AKC

Sarith Success StoryHello beloved people out there!

It has been a long while since I last wrote articles for a press, but today, I would like to share among all of you a brief story of myself.

I am an engineering graduate since 2015 in major: Electronic, Automation and Telecommunication Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), one of the top-tech universities in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am currently serving as Direct IT Assistant in an education establishment in Phnom Penh.

Graduated from high school in 2010 with B rank of the National Exam (mark 99.874) did not make it difficult for me to pass the placement test at ITC, but each time people not in offended manner, but directly asked me how I could make academic conversation or presentation in English fluently while the question is I came from a very remote area of Angkor Thom, Siem Reap. I always smiled with response ‚ÄúNo matter where you came from, with good foundation you will make an improvement‚ÄĚ.

With the English language qualification and competency, I have always been grateful to the man who initiated the educational project called ‚ÄúAngkor Kids Center‚ÄĚ. Samnang CHHON, ¬†is an uncle of mine, a trailblazer, the founder of Angkor Kids Center (AKC), the man who gives so much effort to make a huge educational change in the village.

Essential English BooksBack there in my hometown where the project is still on-going, it began with a small classroom under Samnang‚Äôs brother‚Äôs house where ‚ÄúEssential English Book I‚ÄĚ was preliminarily introduced to the students. Each time I occasionally pass by book stores, and by chance see the ‚ÄúEssential English Book I‚ÄĚ in the book-shelves,¬† it usually reminds me of the characters ‚ÄúMr. Priestley, Lucille, Frieda, Pedro, Olaf, and Hob‚ÄĚ and how my evening English class was like back then.

Even not with much financial and material support, but the AKC with its determined local volunteers, still manages to get to its goal to see the children in the village have chance to improve themselves not just English language, but to explore the outside atmosphere with new experience.

I would never have chance to write this today if without the start back there in 2002. However, I¬† owed a lot of my gratitude to those who have contributed in my further challenges.¬†¬† Once in a long while I visit home, and visit the school, I can proudly say ‚ÄúThis such small place gave me so much more to continue the challenge‚ÄĚ.

Sarith & Sarath as kids

Sarith right & Sarath Left

Author Notes: Sarith was born in Somrong village where AKC is located, he and his older brother Sarath were ones of the students in Samnang’s first English class in early 2000s, Sarith is an outstanding student with great talent and highly capable brain which is unusual to other kids living with poor¬†nutrition to the general lives of Cambodia back in 1990s. Apart from the little English basic AKC had made available for him, all the rest of his life and career development are on his own way of ¬†growth, but he is still grateful to the nature of where he has started. Today, Sarith has been active in searching for possibility to help grow AKC as he really believe that “Everything Need a Start” and there are so many young adults and kids need it and deserve for it!

Interested in interacting with him you may find him on Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/vinsarith?fref=ts

Angkor Kids Center, For better education in Cambodia.

Mr. Phlom THLOK Steps on Another Stone

Following the story posted on¬†Asia Natural Tour blog¬†of Mr. & Mrs. Larson’s family trip¬†hit to sponsor one of Angkor Kids Center local volunteers. Today is our great honor to update you that Phlom will start his one full year intensive course on Tourism Subject¬†on the coming 1st of September 2016, after his successfully made entrance test to catch the highest level of the course arranged by Paul Dubrule Hospitality Vocational Training School in Siem Reap, and the only high standard qualified school in Cambodia, which is a record breaking for our AKC sponsored students to this school.

Phlom is one of our active local volunteers since the time that we had just classes under the families’ house and before the name of Angkor Kids Center formed in 2009. Phlom used to serve as the assistant of the Green Project coordinator who was Mr. Pot PON at that time, in addition to his regular task as the Teacher of English language. Phlom earns his living from working to support his family such as making bloom,¬†incense sticks, firewood for selling and since he is one of active youth in the community, he got some opportunity to join some missions from varied NGO, which he could save a bit from the mission per Diem allowance as well.

volunteer of angkor kids center

Due to the school requirement for him to stay full day at school with lot of homework and researches to do, Phlom will not be able to participate with all the above mentioned activities, this would cause him some challenges to the living survival during his one year learning mission. Asia Natural Tour with Samnang Chhon as one of the company founders, and the founder of Angkor Kids Center who is also Phlom’s neighbor and mentor, a spacious room with internet in Asia Natural Tour office building will be his space to live for free including the utilities, kitchen, running water…

Even though, the school fees of US$ 700¬† has been sponsored by the Larson’family, Phlom is still in need for some financial support as like food cost, extra learning documents, books,….with a minimum of US$ 40 per month is needed.

Let’s congrats Phlom for his better development of his career life and let’s wish him for the most successful course ahead!

Again we would like to thanks Larson’s family from Colorado, a U.U state for building up Phlom’s dream to come true soon!

Interested in taking part in supporting Phlom living support, please visit our donation page and write us a short note of your donation purpose.

Thanks for your your time and interest!
