Hak’s Successful Self-Reintegration

Hak@Amansara

Sitting on the rooftop at his proud workplace, Amansara Resort, known as a 6****** star hotel/resort in Siem Reap, gateway to the rich cultural and natural heritages, Mr. Hak HIEN a former permanent active volunteer at Angkor Kids Center as teacher, HR, and Event coordinator, said he has just signed a contract with Amasara to be a permanent staff after his five months working on the casual employee ! Congratulation Hak !

Please be re-informed that Hak has been sponsored by Linkforaid to join a one year vocational training on restaurant and bar course at Paul Dubrule school 2013-2014, under the AKC Volunteer Reintegration Program. After successfully graduated from this school, Hak was offered a few job opportunities to different hotels and restaurants, and he took one. In August 2014, Hak made a evolution succeeding another job application at a Top hotel in Siem Reap, Amansara on a temporary contract in the Food & Beverage department including outside catering, room service, bar… With the existing experiences gained from the voluntary work  at AKC in the event coordination plus the attractive one year course, along with the curiosities and the talent which are part of his interpersonal skills, Hak was offered to sign a proper staff contract with his hotel. Please note that Hak is NOT the only one who are working on this casual basic, some already worked in their two or 4 years but stay still.

Almost every time that I was called to sit in the office is to get some lesson, incredibly this week call-in is to sign a paper which have never ever expected to read and have it” Hak said. He also added that ” With the compensation that I am going to have from this job I feel relieve that I could carry my family much lighter than before“. Hak lost his father in 2013 in the middle of his course session year leaving him and three younger sisters who are at school and his mother that he has to take responsibility.

Even though, Hak is very busy at work, Hak always stay one of the active youth back at AKC and his communities to be grateful to this project! His next life project is going to the University here in Siem Reap !

Again thanks to the fabulous team of Linkforaid, a charity organization in Italy for making all these inspirational story happen !

Sleeping on the Back of the Dancing Lions :)

Gong Xi Fa Cai ! / Happy Chinese New Year to all our friends !

It looks like we are sleeping all day long here, but NO not really, we stay as active as we used to but the limited time on the air to speak out made us out 🙁

Having a quiet time at work today, we would like share with you some news as following:

1/- Early February 2015, AKC had the great honor to welcome the big group of students and professors around 200 participants from a university of Pannasastra University of Cambodia, Phnom Penh campus to have the inspiration of taking part in the volunteer life for them from AKC model. This is the second time that AKC host this university official field visit. They brought along with some knowledge and experiences to share with AKC on top of the presenting the massive number of students who are doing higher level of education to our AKC students.

2/ – The Chicken Raising Project : We have successfully  raised the 500 chicken even we could not make any money from this first try. What we could benefit from this pilot project is the experiences to either the team spirit in fighting with few challenges and the new knowledge that we digged out from the deep ground. This testing session of the raising made us lost US$ 100 without projecting with the infrastructure building (chicken house, farm fences…), but comparing to spending the money in a vocational training school, we spent a lot less 🙂 The only reason we got lost this time is the wrong species of chicken that we have chosen. NO WORRY : we are now on our way to have the second generation of our chicken raising, this time we already know which way we should take on to travel to make the money for our school. Stay tune and read more news coming along… Nevertheless, thanks again to the donation of Help4Cambodia for funding this project !

3/- In late January 2015, a ceremony had been hosted to all our  AKC volunteer team by the local authority to present their recognition and the care to our voluntary work. The participants from the host bodies including the authority officers from the district, commune and the village level. AKC was not the only guests but we had the participation from the villagers. The evening expenses covered by the officers, the villagers’ participation, and the of course small participation from AKC.

This is all for the break time from AKC in Siem Reap !

Wish you all the best time in this occasion and be active as the Lion Dancing !

A Secret Shortcut Route to AKC

The Short Access

Cristian Bike

The most challenging barrier for the international volunteer to help our school is the connection from the town center of Siem Reap to the school which take 45 minutes to 1 hour by car or Remoak (Tuk Tuk). Today with Mr. Cristiano Volpe from Italy who has spent much of his time helping the shelters of Take Care Kids in Pattaya, Thailand  together with AKC founder, Mr. Samnang Chhon have discovered a new trails which take just 15 kilometers, 1 hour by bicycle, this path accessible by bike and motorbike only. What stays beyond the short approach to the center, is the fun in the peaceful trails through the Angkor Archeological park rainforest, ancient canals, the ancient irrigation system, the ancient water reservoir  and the typical rice farms and fields along the way which made the ride full of energy !

Beyond the Access

What is even more meaningful, Cristiano has brought along some grateful gifts to AKC such as a high quality of Water Filter which is an exclusive product of Rotary Club, some classroom stationeries, and a few sets of students uniforms for the most unprivileged family at AKC community.
