Sarith’s Success Story with Recognition to AKC

Sarith Success StoryHello beloved people out there!

It has been a long while since I last wrote articles for a press, but today, I would like to share among all of you a brief story of myself.

I am an engineering graduate since 2015 in major: Electronic, Automation and Telecommunication Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), one of the top-tech universities in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am currently serving as Direct IT Assistant in an education establishment in Phnom Penh.

Graduated from high school in 2010 with B rank of the National Exam (mark 99.874) did not make it difficult for me to pass the placement test at ITC, but each time people not in offended manner, but directly asked me how I could make academic conversation or presentation in English fluently while the question is I came from a very remote area of Angkor Thom, Siem Reap. I always smiled with response “No matter where you came from, with good foundation you will make an improvement”.

With the English language qualification and competency, I have always been grateful to the man who initiated the educational project called “Angkor Kids Center”. Samnang CHHON,  is an uncle of mine, a trailblazer, the founder of Angkor Kids Center (AKC), the man who gives so much effort to make a huge educational change in the village.

Essential English BooksBack there in my hometown where the project is still on-going, it began with a small classroom under Samnang’s brother’s house where “Essential English Book I” was preliminarily introduced to the students. Each time I occasionally pass by book stores, and by chance see the “Essential English Book I” in the book-shelves,  it usually reminds me of the characters “Mr. Priestley, Lucille, Frieda, Pedro, Olaf, and Hob” and how my evening English class was like back then.

Even not with much financial and material support, but the AKC with its determined local volunteers, still manages to get to its goal to see the children in the village have chance to improve themselves not just English language, but to explore the outside atmosphere with new experience.

I would never have chance to write this today if without the start back there in 2002. However, I  owed a lot of my gratitude to those who have contributed in my further challenges.   Once in a long while I visit home, and visit the school, I can proudly say “This such small place gave me so much more to continue the challenge”.

Sarith & Sarath as kids

Sarith right & Sarath Left

Author Notes: Sarith was born in Somrong village where AKC is located, he and his older brother Sarath were ones of the students in Samnang’s first English class in early 2000s, Sarith is an outstanding student with great talent and highly capable brain which is unusual to other kids living with poor nutrition to the general lives of Cambodia back in 1990s. Apart from the little English basic AKC had made available for him, all the rest of his life and career development are on his own way of  growth, but he is still grateful to the nature of where he has started. Today, Sarith has been active in searching for possibility to help grow AKC as he really believe that “Everything Need a Start” and there are so many young adults and kids need it and deserve for it!
